What is a CDA?


CDA stands for Child Development Associate.  CDA is a nationally recognized credential that is awarded to individuals completing the CDA training and final Assessment.  Those who attain a CDA credential are prepared to meet the specific needs of children, nurturing their physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth.

A CDA Credential:

Enhances the quality of care and education for young children.  Indicates early childhood professionals have increased skills and knowledge.Is a nationally recognized credential that follows the child care professional, no matter where he or she works.  

Project Key Components:   

Training: 

120 contact training hours are provided throughout the state by an agency or organization with expertise in early childhood teacher preparation or formal child care education.
 

Advising:

Professionals are available to guide participants through the CDA training and assessment, which lead to attainment of the CDA credential.
  



How Do I Apply?


Non- Formal CDA Credential Classes Available in Lake County Indiana

 

Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential classes are being offered in Lake County Indiana through Purdue Extension as a result of a grant from the Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children (IAEYC). The classes offer 120 hours of CDA instruction required by the National Council for Professional Recognition, the CDA  awarding agency in Washington, DC.


 

*While family child care providers have priority in the Non-Formal CDA initiative, child care professionals in ministry or licensed child care settings are also welcome to participate.

ECED-101 Health, Safety & Nutrition
ECED- 103 Curriculum in Early Childhood Education
ECED-105 The CDA Process

COST: 

In state tuition $95.00 per credit hour
Technology Fee - $40.00
Distance Education Classes - $10.00 per credit hour
Late payment fee - $25.00

ECED 100 Mondays 6-8:45 pm
ECED 101 Wednesday 6-8:45 pm

Hours of Operations: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm
